These two quotes show how women were viewed and treated at the time. The unfair perspective that people like the Guerrilla Girls fight off. A women couldn't commit adultery without facing consequences like being buried alive. But a man could commit adultery with zero consequences unless it was another mans wife. I think this is important because it points out early misogynistic gender roles and rules. I also think the Guerrilla Girls point this out to give some sort of perspective on how these things have progressed & where these standards on women stem from.

This quote shows men's want for their hierarchy even if woman had some sort of "religious authority" by pushing them down.
