My name is Beshoy Erian, I am a Sports Photographer based in Jersey City, I Primarily focus on digital photographs as mediums. My work consists of adding a lot of motion/emotion through sports. Allot of my work consist of very vibrant colors and add a lot of perspectives showing the sport in ways the audience wouldn't be able to see. What inspires my work is growing up in a household that wasn't very keen for sports, I use my work as a way for me to connect to sports and people that are highly motivated to succeed in that sport.

Some examples of my work:

Quotes- Part 2

Understanding Patriarchy- Bell Hooks

"At church they had learned that God created man to rule the world and everything in it and that it was the work of women to help men perform these tasks, to obey, and to always assume a subordinate role in relation to a powerful man".

What I understood from this is that, in church, women were taught that men were meant to rule the world, and their job was to help men, obey them, and stay as almost a supporting role.

"To truly address male pain and male crisis we must as a nation be willing to expose the harsh reality that patriarchy has damaged men in the past and continues to damage them in the present".

What I took from this quote is that she says, to truly understand and help men with their struggles, we need to face the truth that patriarchy has hurt them in the past and still does today.

Maura Reilly, Making Trouble

"In 1988, Linda Nochlin famously argued that “feminist art history is there to make trouble, to call into question, to ruffle feathers in the patriarchal dovecotes."

"We must: Challenge assumptions, Be bold, Talk back, and Be irreverent and anti-establishment"

These two quotations encourage us to oppose the typical, male-dominated systems. According to Nochlin, feminist art history is about challenging the way history is presented and looking at who is left out, not just about studying art. To backpack off that in the second quote, which encourages bravery against the status quo and question or challenge these old ideas.

John Berger, Ways of Seeing, Chapters 2+3

"To be born a woman has been to be born, within an allotted and confined space, into the keeping of men".

"Her own sense of being in herself is supplanted by a sense of being appreciated as herself by another".

These quotations highlight how, historically, women's identity have been determined by their interactions with men instead of by who they are. The first quote shows how women have frequently been subject to male control and limited by the cultural standards. Womens self worth is determined by how others,in this case particularly men, view them instead of by their own personal views. The second quote shows how women's identities and lives have been shaped by outside factors instead of their own free will.
