My name is Jahkai, i’m a graphic designer! I work a lot in programs like Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator. I am self taught with a little bit of Highschool class experience. I've been editing photos and videos since a kid, I wanna say around 9-11 years old. My goal is to become a graphic designer all around. My favorites things to make the most are logos, album covers & creating edits. But I want to be able to help on whatever I can get my hands on, just to be innovative and create.
HW: 2 Quotes
Understanding Patriarchy
"My brother was taught that it was his role to be served; to provide; to be strong; to think, strategize, and plan; and to refuse to caretake or nurture others."
The reason I picked this quote is because it really goes into detail about something that splits us up. It gives young men this stack of bricks of what their role is. Things like refusing to caretake or nurture others & to be served. It's a lot to put on a boy growing up, not just that but it effects them socially. Its like these aspects turn into pushing others away or seeming like they don't care about anything.
“I tried to warn you. You need to accept that you are just a little girl and girls can’t do what boys do.”
This quote shows how society felt about girls & boys, and the predetermined gender roles they were born into. Even a mother comforting her daughter confines herself to these gender roles. Not even trying to encourage her daughter to be herself. It's like they were too deep in the gender roles to even try to oppose them, and now we are just seeing that in 2025.
Making Trouble
“feminist art history
is there to make trouble,
to call into question,
to ruffle feathers in the
patriarchal dovecotes.”
This quote is speaking about how opposing the norms creates these reactions. Claiming at art history is there to create these reactions because women weren't even respect as artists before. It's new from the norm and people cant handle that. It does ruffle feathers, women were attacking the art scene directly.
"We must:
Challenge assumptions
Be bold
Talk back
Be irreverent and anti-establishment"
They had to do these bold things, they had to get their point across and find away for people to see it. It was attention grabbing.
Ways of Seeing Chapters 2 & 3 by John Berger
"To be born a woman has been to be born, within an allotted and confined space, into the keeping of men."
This is saying a woman is basically being put into the men's world. Always being put into a box under a scope. Always having to fit into the perfect norm that men set for them.
"Men survey women before treating them. Consequently how a woman appears to a man can determine how she will be treated."
This talks about how men don't even give a woman a chance, he just goes off other factors, that aren't about her, but what she is.
