CLASS TRIP ON 12/3 after our final exam! Immediately after our final exam we will be taking a trip TOGETHER - via light rail and path train to two galleries in NYC Jack Shainman Gallery and Marianne Goodman Gallery. You will be dismissed from the art gallery in NYC and you can ride the path home together or stay for dinner. Please plan accordingly for this trip.

Please visit the exhibition at Visual Arts Gallery - concentrate on the Atomic Cowboy exhibition only

Review the materials, brochures, labels in the Visual Arts Gallery and the exhibition materials linked from the gallery website (listed below)

ESSAY:
Please visit the exhibition, Atomic Cowboy, and spend time with the work of artist Nobuho Nagasawa. Be sure to read all of the label information, gallery materials and take images of the work.

Choose 2 works that stand out to you. Please give the title and medium of the works and describe each of these artworks in detail. How are the works made and displayed? Explain the message/meaning you interpreted from visiting the work. Take images of the works and include the images in your post. What messages do these works convey to the audience about identity, power, race, gender and social justice? How do these historical narratives about war, struggle, humanity, injustice ask larger questions and raise awareness about these issues? How do these works explore the artists's own identity? Do the works explore political and social issues in connection to history? How does the exhibition fit into art history?

Choose 3 quotes from the readings we have done so far (from our textbook and readings: Linda Nochlin, bell hooks and John Berger and online articles) and connect these to the artworks that you chose from the exhibition.
